Finding Focus

In Matthew 5:8, Jesus said, “Blessed is the pure in heart, for they will see God”. Here we can see it takes a pure heart to see God and the only way we can have a pure heart is to have a single-minded focus on God.

The question becomes, can I always be focused on God? Then, how do we possibly do that in a world filled with so many distractions?

Moses gives us the answer in Deuteronomy 6:4. We must, “love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our strength”. He goes on to provide the method for maintaining the focus needed. We are to keep His commands on our hearts and teach them to our children. We are to talk about them and think about them when we rise up, when we lie down and when we walk along our way.

In other words, no matter where we are or what we are doing, finding focus can only be accomplished when our hearts and minds are focused on God and His command to love Him.

So, if you are having trouble finding focus today, maybe you should ask yourself where you have placed your focus. Is it on you, the things of this world or on the Lord?

We will know the answer when our hearts are pure because we will be able to see God in everything we do.

Deuteronomy 6:4-6, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.”
