The interesting part is the song is personal. It doesn’t say the world can be a better place if others change or if our situations and circumstances change. The song says if we want to make the world a better place, we need to look at ourselves and make a change.
As Christ Followers, we know that the change we need and seek comes from Jesus. We also know that if we will allow Him to, He will change us and continue to until He calls us home. As with the song, it is personal. We need to allow the Lord to change us from the inside. Before we can do that, we must see the need for that change.
The question is, do we? Or do we only see the need for change in others?
Though the words in this song may not provide the greatest theology, they do provide great truth. If we are going to make our world a better place, we are going to have to look at ourselves and make a change. We are going to have to change the way we think, the way we act and the way we live.
The difference between our lives and the man in the song, is we know that this can only happen if we allow the Lord to change us.
Since we are a new creation, and evidence of Christ in a person is a changed life, the question I have is do we see that evidence when we look at the “Man in the Mirror”?
I hope so, because the change we need to make is not only seen in the mirror, it is being seen by those around us.
II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
